Between the town of Mendocino and Fort Bragg lies the hidden community of Caspar and gorgeous Caspar Headlands State Beach. This sheltered beach is great spot to escape the crowds. Catch a wave or simply chill out and enjoy the sunset.

Ride the historic Skunk Train (or railbike) through old-growth redwood groves, over scenic trestle bridges, through spectacular tunnels, and into the heart of the Noyo River canyon.

If you’re up for an adventure head 2 hours north to see the giants of the forest in Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Take the 32 mile drive known as “The Avenue of the Giants” and visit Rockefeller Forest, part of the largest expanse of old-growth redwoods on the planet. Want to spend the night in this area? Mendocino is the only town on the California Coast that is designated as an Historical Landmark and after an afternoon here you’ll understand why. Quaint shops, art galleries, restaurants and inns line the “downtown” street. Come for the shopping and stay for the gorgeous view.

Need a little time to unwind. Leave the kids behind and head to Orr Hot Springs to take in the scenery. This gem is California crunchy (clothing optional) and the perfect place leave your worries at the door. Stay for a few hours or an overnight and leave refreshed and energized.
